A+A About

Art + Australia is a publishing and research body that focuses on contemporary art and its relationship to broader theoretical, social and geo-political contexts. Based at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), University of Melbourne, and living intimately with the vibrant pulse of its art school host, Art + Australia presents a rigorous and uncompromising perspective on what might constitute both art and Australia in the twenty first century.

Art + Australia comprises a print journal, produced biannually in May and October; a digital platform, A+A Online; a small books imprint, A+A Publishing; and a series of other discursive activities through A+A Publics.

The call out for contributions for the print issue is open to the public in November and March each year. Starting 2020, A+A Online will invite guest editors on a yearly basis.

The editors and publisher respectfully acknowledge the Boonwurrung and Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation, on whose land Art + Australia is produced. We acknowledge their ancestors and Elders, who are part of the longest continuing culture in the world.

Art + Australia is embedded directly within Australia’s rich and multi-faceted art community and provides opportunities for participation, engagement and collaboration at all levels.

Art + Australia is pleased to partner with a number of foundation supporters and is currently developing opportunities for emerging arts writers and practitioners to gain experience through mentoring programs and internships. To find out more information, email Art + Australia.
