About A+a Online

Art + Australia has established A+a Online, an exciting online platform designed to allow for current and quick responses to contemporary art issues. In contrast to the thematic focus and in-depth scholarship of its print counterpart, A+a Online provides opportunities for emerging and established writers to develop reactive, creative, critical and reflective considerations of artistic content.

From 1 July 2018 A+a Online is changing the editorial policy to further the rigour and focus of our published material. A+a Online will commission four articles per month based on currency, diversity of content, and diversity of geographical location throughout Australia and abroad. Each contributor will be paid $250 per piece and will receive editorial advice and mentoring assistance.

A+a Online is a site for conversational and engaged critique that aims to publish fresh and relevant voices, and artists’ perspectives that are reflected in the following categories:

Dispatches are meditations and ruminations from cultural attachés, artists on residencies or traveling away form their usual habitats.

Discursions focus on particular exhibitions, events or artists' practices discussed in a review format.

Disquisitions feature substantial and critically engaged discussion and provocation around a specific (and contended) idea or issue.

Discussions are interviews between artists, curators, and writers.

Disruptions facilitate hybrid forms of writing, artist pages, projects, video essays that do not conform to an article-based format, but are themselves works of art.

Distance refers to a temporal distance in which we reconsider exhibitions from the past.
